Hazar Karagöl made history at Boys' 1000m Final in Short Track Hall. Turkey had no short track medals at European Youth Olympic Winter Festival since 1991 but won its first medal with Hazar Karagöl.

Hazar Karagöl did not get what he wanted in 500 and 1500m competitions but reached his goal in 1000m competition. 16yr old athlete completed the track in the second place and succeed his most important achievement in his career.

Hazar Karagöl who did not start well in the competition included four players took the second place with his dashes toward the last four laps. 16yr old athlete relieved with the falling of his rivals behind him. Although Karagöl forced the leading position, he took the second place by two split second difference.

Hazar Karagöl won the silver medal with the time of 1:45.728 in the competition which Diane Sellier of France took the gold medal with the time of 1:35.644. Third place is taken by Aleksei Simakin with the time of 1:45.728.

Another Turkish athlete Sema Çirti was the fastest third but took leave from the organization at Girls’ 1000m Semi-final and took the 11th place. Kübra Uzun who made out from the heat took the 20th place. Fatih Özden in the boys’ category took a penalty.

Turkey which took the bronze medal at snowboard by Aydan Karakulak before at EYOF 2017 Erzurum saw the podium again by the silver medal of Hazar Karagöl.
