Minister of Youth and Sports met with the Turkish athletes who will participate at the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival on February 11-18. 

Minister Çağatay Kılıç said that considering the situation in Turkey these days, athletes have an important role. He also added: “There have been some threats to peace in our country and Turkey’s unity as a whole. You will respond to these threats with your performance.”

Minister Çağatay Kılıç also talked about how this organisation will be helpful for the athletes: “You will gain experience from this event and it will be helpful for you in the future. You will have a chance to see the excitement of an international organisation. You will realise what you have to work on. You will see the areas that you can improve. Hopefully, some of you will participate at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.”

Minister Çağatay Kılıç said that winter sports aren’t widely popular in Turkey. “As unfortunate as it is, this is the fact. Skiing and skating are more popular than the rest and the other sports gaining popularity as well. As the number of the young athletes like you, this sports will be getting bigger in Turkey.”

Lastly, Minister Çağatay Kılıç said that Turkey doesn’t lack sports facilities anymore and young athletes are using the opportunity very well when they have it.

Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Turkey’s Minister of Youth and Sports, hosted the athletes that will participate at the EYOF 2017.
